long time, no see.....

its been such a long time since i was blogging on this site........i seem to spend more time on facebook than on here, but that doesnt mean Ive stopped making art or being interested in art...........quite the contrary really.

me and my offerings at the one day exhibition (which became a two week show) with KNIGHTON LANE ARTISTS GROUP as part of the Leicester Cosmopolitan Carnival this year. These paintings were part of the larger, solo show, I had at Creation Fine Arts, Beverley, Yorkshire this year.

and these were most of the Creation Fine Arts solo show.

There is also my submission to the Windows-On project, which I won the award for last year (but not this year),

and lets not forget my submission to the Cank Street Gallery open exhibition, which I do not have available to show here. I also intend this year to enter the Leicester Open at the end of the year, and hopefully, early next year , to be accepted into the Leicester Society of Arts.

So as you can see, its been all go !

HOUSEWARMING INVITE

Ive been invited to the housewarming of my genius herbalist who is currently regrowing the hair in my bald spot, which is heartwarming. Actually though, it was his/her wife who invited me. Ah, I see you noticed the his/her thing.........well, my herbalist used to be called Mark but is now called Amanda..........do I have to spell it out for you? lol.... so anyways...... what has this to do with art? well, aparently they will have lots of interesting people such as musicians, poets, and trans people..............so where will I fit in? I dont like parties as I never know what to say or do and usually wind up in the kitchen...........I say usually, but actually, I dont go to parties so Idont know if I do end up in the kitchen or not............its a figure of speech........and talking of speech...see what I did there?.............this is innapropriate to this blog. I should perhaps open another blog for talky talky things like this.......what should I call it? Ideas on a postcard please........hahahaha

I think this is my moment, this collection of works is a seminal step for my art practice, marking the future of my ouvre.

so, here we are again. nothing since January then two come at once! Average taxi day, but good cycle ride and productive studio time, so thats all that matters.

Facebook has gone a little boring. The interesting people havent written much of interest whilst the non interesting people continue to believe that the rest of the world is interested in them. Funny how that happens isnt it? Well, it isnt funny really. Funny is Morcombe and Wise, Ant and Dec, Laurel and Hardy, Cannon and Ball................hmmm, there seems to be  a trend here. Of course there are funny people who not comedy duos but when you think about it there are perhaps more twosomes in the comedic field than is expected. I mean, either one is funny and one is straight or both are funny. In the first case one gets jealous of the laughter, and in the other the competition to be the funniest could be their undoing..............and yet,it never seems to go that way, either way, which suggests something about human-ness that perhaps we havent considered. I will leave you to consider that.

My paintings used to suffer from  a lac k of consideration on my part. Always in a hurry to get a piece finished. Dont understand why, but I do know its hard to stop that, but I am succeeding more often than failing these days and, I hope, it shows in the final peice of art Ive produced.

Im part of KLA, and as such Im informed we have a group show in a Methodist Church somewhere; no graphc nudes, no bad language, etc., etc.. Coincidentally my penultimate painting looks quite christian.....the old crucifix pose, no less.

Speaking of religion................the super intelligent seem to believe in God, the average seem to be believe in God, but those in the middle seem to not believe. I wonder why that is? Could it be that the average simply dont understand the science and so believe a super being created all of this (waves of hand), whilst the middle group all think they are intelligent enough to understand the implications of all the scientific data and therefore cannot believe in a superbeing, whilst the superclever see so many gaps in the scientific explanations for everything that they realise that, in the end, it took an extreme intelligence to design the Universe and all thats in it.

So, Im guessing Im agnostic !!! hehehehe

To Write or Not To Write?

Its been a while since I posted anything on this blogthing, it seems facebook has superseded it. More people read facebook than my blog. However, since reading somebody elses blog.....lizardyoga....it think it was called or was that the authors tag.............dont recall, and I only read it five minutes ago.

Anyway, Ive been growing this bald patch but now , since meeting a herbalist via facebook, I am now growing a non bald patch ! Thats not because I met a herbalist, of course, but because the herbalist made up a magic potion in the form of a shampoo. Crazy but it works. But maybe it isnt so crazy, because it works.

Returning to the aforementioned blog, it made me realise how much I miss writing and, although Ive only ever sold one story (to a local newspaper) I do enjoy the writing process, so Im going to start doing some more. Now the question is this.....do I write here, on this blog, which was set up just for my art, or do I open another blog account?

Its important because thats what happened on my facebook page. I started it to promote my art and I do manage to keep it mostly to do with art in general, but still other things creep into it. Actually, I now have three facebook pages, plus some pages linked to one of them which are also supposed to be about art. Its all a bit of a mess really. A bit like my studio.

I really need to redesign my studio. I know what I want. I want the end wall to house the desk and above that to have my painting storage, possible two levels. Along the shaded wall storage racks for paper, paints , sketch books, etc. leaving the opposite long wall for supporting several paintings on the go. The table can go in the corner next to the exit and must be kept clear for clean working, cutting, etc.

Thats the plan, but executing it is of course the hard part. Im not a builder. Not terribly practical. But one day it will get done.

So, I have my solo show coming up at the end of May in Yorkshire and recently had a fright when I couldnt find a painting that was destined to be shown there. Turned up in the KLA building in Leicester along with four others I had forgotten about. Happy days ! such a relief to know it wasnt stolen............although it wouldnt be the first time, which is a bit of a backhanded compliment. Should I feel good that somebody wanted a painting so badly they stole it, or feel bad that they didnt pay for it? which is best? I could follow the negative but these days I try to follow the positive. I tried the former and it doesnt work.

So, there, Ive written something. It includes words about art. So maybe Ive answered my own question.

images for the solo show 2014

thought maybe I should post three of the pics I sent to Creation Fine Arts.
#9; Chloes Tea Party, mixed media on canvas (acrylic, oil and collage)
#10; The Red Head, Oil on canvas
#13; Angel, oil and collage on canvas

there are two versions of Angel. Lets hope people like them enough to purchase them. I love them, and it isnt often I say that about my own work, as Im my own worst critic.

Love all , Hurt none, and Walk in soft shoes
I have been asked for an image by CREATION FINE ARTS, for their newsletter, which covers their activities for the next couple of month. As usual, I couldnt make a decision so sent four, plus a little blurb/statement.  Slowly building up a nice collection of characters, mostly built on me despite the gender presented in the image.  Hoping there will be a private viewing as I would like to be there on the opening night and meet some of the galleries patrons.

On another front.............holidays..............trying to decide when and where is so stressful that I need a holiday from holidaymaking.!  Just want somewhere warm, quiet, with evening entertainment, and where I dont have to do anything all day except sit by the pool and read a book. Too much to ask? let you know when I know.

Tim Fowler, of the KLA group, is enjoying success with work in exhibitions and has in fact, changed his subject from buildings to portraits. His latest series, a hand painted series of screen prints of Audrey Hepburn, are particularly interesting.

OK, nothing much else to say except , of course. Love all, Hurt none, and Walk in soft shoes !
