ANOTHER OPEN, another pair of eyes feeling nice

this piece of work, called MEME MEME, has been accepted into the Silver Vine Open Exhibition, Leicester, this August, 2015. So fingers crossed that firstly it isnt exhibited at floor level, and secondly that it sells.

meanwhile, this small work, 12 " square board has been completed today in the studio and........

......this has been started. Had a nice few hours in the studio this morning, July 18, 2015. I know the date because its my middle sons birthday, but dont ask me his age, early thirties is all I know for sure. Anyway, back to the last two images. They are part of a whole series of small paintings I have in my mind, and my sketchbook, as I move into the world of pure abstraction. They start as something real, and get altered firstly via the app on my phone and then via the actual painting where I use the photographic image purely as reference, omitting details, inventing others, all in the cause of making something to make your eyes feel nice.

OPEN26, Celebrity NOT, Changing a painting for the better.

I managed to have one painting accepted into OPEN26, as I mentioned in a previous blog, but I also was complemented on my kilt and made to feel quite special by two ladies who insisted on photographs ! So thats what being a celebrity feels like !!!  Made my evening. Here are a couple of pics they took. They are Diane Sinclair and Sarah Robinson Croxall.

(oh, that right leg of mine........clearly larger than the left, so Im clearly losing the battle with water retention, but hopefully my supports and cycling will slow down the inevitable)

and the following is me bending down to floor level to present my painting. Apparently my work only fits at floor level. The second time this has happened , never mind, at least it got in. And Im so happy about that !

(thought the kilt might have got into this pic, but didnt. The important images did..........ME and the ANGEL !!! lol)

and now to what I did in the studio today.
I changed a painting I thought I liked for a while but discovered the other day that it wasnt very good at all.

so the above is how it looked before..........and below is how it looks now.....

ooo, this is soooo much better...full of life, and colour, and, and, and....................now I LOVE IT

Title has changed too. Its now simply "Red Head in a Spotted Dress"

so, let me know your thoughts and whilst doing that remember to;

Love all, hurt none, and walk in soft shoes.

SUCCESS AND OTHER THINGS

So, last time I mentioned reorganising my little studio, which I have now done..........it feels so much better, so much cleaner, so much more working space.........

as you can see. now nice and tidy. This cleanliness helps my mind to free itself to be creative and indeed, Ive had so much art running through my mind since this reorganisation that I cant wait to get started. But where do I start? hahaha, a good problem to have.

Other busines, the SUCCESS part of the title;
Entered three paintings into the Leicester Open 26 and managed to have one of them accepted.

this one;

on the down side, its at floor level, so how many people will actually look down there Im not sure, but its good on the C.V. and encourages me to continue with my passion.

Had a great night at the opening and award giving, didnt win any awards, but Im just happy to get paintings accepted into the show to be honest. But I was treated like a celebrity, as if I had won an award, just because I was wearing a kilt!!! haha, my photo was taken by two ladies in particular. So many nice things said about me in mykilt, much to my wifes surprise and indignation. Hehehe, so funny..................but it confirms the non bifurcated garment as a permanent part of my wardrobe.

OTHER but related things;

bumped into Bali Sangh-Jenkins, a fellow artist who I intially met on facebook and who firmly told my wife she should be so proud of me for wearing a kilt, for being who I am, for being an artist. She also apparently had had issues with her husband for what she was wearing. But we are artists , you cant lock us in to other peoples cages!!!!

A New Series

Here is my latest baby. Mary Magdalen. I hankered over the idea of making a series of paintings, in a contemporary style, looking at some of the close circle who followed Jesus around. Im not actually religious, more spiritual, probably more aligned to Buddhism than anything else these days, but having grown up with the bible stories and knowing these stories still have an impact on people today it seems like a good idea. Whether or not any Church would entertain displaying them is another matter, but thats so far in the future it isnt worth wondering about right now.

this is the painting that started my line of thinking. It was never meant to be religious, but the more I looked at it the more I felt it was. Titled "The Improbable Geometry of Creation" and mixed media on canvas. It could be an interpretation of god, and the "son". There are images of other things dotted around the painting, such as a dove, an orb, an eye.........

So its good to know where a series started, because right now I dont know where it will end. Next on the list is the fishermen.

Enjoying the freedom of my private little studio. Am thinking of rearranging things once again. Jetisoning the things I really dont use anymore, making more space and perhaps blocking in the storage spaces so that I can turn it into a small gallery a couple of times a year. But thats only in my minds eye right now. Im not terribly handy really, so lets not hold our breaths, hahaha.
