Tempes Fugit. Recent Folio Samples

How long has it been? Well over a year. Well, maybe its time I started again. Ive made lots of art since then. Ive moved from my little studio and now have a studio in my garden, a large wooden structure, 16 feet x 10 feet..........its also a workshop as I now have a couple of power saws and a vice on one side of the room, and racks at the end to store my paintings. Shelves contain all my old sketchbooks, which I still refer to for ideas. I cant possibly bring you up to date with all Ive done, so I will just post a few pics of artworks for now, just to get used to doing this blog again. Hope you enjoy.

so this is just a sample of my works. I was told at uni that being diverse was a bad thing, but when you look around at artists who have "made it", they are quite often diverse. There is a Chinese artist, whose name I forget, who employs hundreds of artisans for his projects, and all his projects are diferent.........ranging from painting with ash, to sculptures to rooms within rooms. So Im taking heart from people like him and continuing to make art that Im inpsired to make. Sometimes its just an experiment, but other times they become finished pieces and bear very little in common with previous works. I fail to see how this is wrong. How can anyone contain their imagination?

so, I havent said this for a while, but...........

the ART of ART

Strange title? Im not so sure. I rather think that the real art to art is getting noticed not so much the actual art you produce. Its a real art to discover the people you need to notice your artworks, the buyers and those who can point the buyers in your direction. Its not something Ive managed to succeed in and so, despite my fabulous artworks, it could be said that Ive failed as an artist because the real art, the ART of discovery , has eluded me. So I can make as many fabulous pieces of art

as I like, but

it wont make any diference

because those who need to see them, dont.

so in the words stolen from Dads Army, we're doomed !

Its slightly depressing and could really get me down if I let it, so I choose to live in hope, keep making the fabulous art and keep knocking on doors.

ABOUT TIME , TOO!

This painting/collage on board won a prize in 2013.

it was a really good feeling winning something. Unfortunately the exhibition was outside, for a year, so, a year later its in ruins. Good thing I took the photograph.

ANOTHER OPEN, another pair of eyes feeling nice

this piece of work, called MEME MEME, has been accepted into the Silver Vine Open Exhibition, Leicester, this August, 2015. So fingers crossed that firstly it isnt exhibited at floor level, and secondly that it sells.

meanwhile, this small work, 12 " square board has been completed today in the studio and........

......this has been started. Had a nice few hours in the studio this morning, July 18, 2015. I know the date because its my middle sons birthday, but dont ask me his age, early thirties is all I know for sure. Anyway, back to the last two images. They are part of a whole series of small paintings I have in my mind, and my sketchbook, as I move into the world of pure abstraction. They start as something real, and get altered firstly via the app on my phone and then via the actual painting where I use the photographic image purely as reference, omitting details, inventing others, all in the cause of making something to make your eyes feel nice.

OPEN26, Celebrity NOT, Changing a painting for the better.

I managed to have one painting accepted into OPEN26, as I mentioned in a previous blog, but I also was complemented on my kilt and made to feel quite special by two ladies who insisted on photographs ! So thats what being a celebrity feels like !!!  Made my evening. Here are a couple of pics they took. They are Diane Sinclair and Sarah Robinson Croxall.

(oh, that right leg of mine........clearly larger than the left, so Im clearly losing the battle with water retention, but hopefully my supports and cycling will slow down the inevitable)

and the following is me bending down to floor level to present my painting. Apparently my work only fits at floor level. The second time this has happened , never mind, at least it got in. And Im so happy about that !

(thought the kilt might have got into this pic, but didnt. The important images did..........ME and the ANGEL !!! lol)

and now to what I did in the studio today.
I changed a painting I thought I liked for a while but discovered the other day that it wasnt very good at all.

so the above is how it looked before..........and below is how it looks now.....

ooo, this is soooo much better...full of life, and colour, and, and, and....................now I LOVE IT

Title has changed too. Its now simply "Red Head in a Spotted Dress"

so, let me know your thoughts and whilst doing that remember to;
